The unified super mind: If I think it therefore I can make it

Oh to be of one mind… wouldn’t it be marvelous if all humans on the planet were one efficient and rational mind, connected to all the individual minds around the globe, sensing and feeling and empathizing with every individual mind. It sounds miraculous and far-fetched and a bit sci-fi, because it absolutely is. But what if we could connect all our minds telepathically and transmit our thoughts directly to the other, breaking down the barriers of understanding like language, religion, culture, and social norms, and addressing only the core mind in the language it understands that of reasoned thought?


 

That to me would be our ultimate evolution as a species. The 2014 Luc Besson movie ‘Lucy’, suggests the possibility of super humans using more than 10% of their cerebral capacity, which is all we use at the moment apparently. In the movie we see a heroine taking a high dose of a certain drug and experiencing enhanced mental capacity that keeps growing throughout the movie. She begins to evolve from what we understand to be human, into something more mechanical and rational and evolved. She acquires the ability to communicate telepathically and manipulate objects and people remotely, transmitting her thought into action with the power of her enhanced mind. She eventually evolves out of her animal/human shell into an ethereal creature without solid form but which exists everywhere and on every plain, a god creature for the more religious among you.

 

Now, this is the fiction, and coupled with great on screen action, it is a very amusing watchable movie, but what if we could connect all minds telepathically?

 

First life bane, and this is something we all have felt at some point, a deep frustration that stems from the other’s lack of understanding of our rational and reasonable ideas. It is as if you are saying the words that come from your mind through your mouth, but that the other is receiving them differently. The receiver’s emotional state, their culture and religion and social norms create filters and barriers to understanding, these filters manipulate understanding, so that by the time your rational reasoned words arrive to the other’s rational mind they appear distorted, disjointed and irrational and are therefore rejected and rebutted. 

 

Second life bane, our own minds sometimes reject rational answers because our sense of self and all we have been taught rejects jarring and disturbing ideas, despite their rational and reasoned underpinnings.

 

What if we bypass all that and allow minds to communicate directly and instantly?

 

I envisage a new human species, one that resolves age old disputes and problems with the speed of a single mental computation. I envisage the end to learning disabilities as the new human mind learns self-maintenance, aided by the strength and abilities of over 7 billion minds. Neurosurgery would no longer be needed, as humans use close to 100% of their mental capacity and learn to manipulate and excise diseased portions of their own brains and rebuild neural networks as easily as a construction crew builds a road bridge!  

 

Imagine you are a heart patient in need of medication and you are caught in a snow storm, if you don’t get your medicine you die! The new single human mind would solve this, as medical and pharmaceutical knowledge is transmitted directly to the patient’s mind which learns to synthesize the needed medication in the patient’s own body from its own molecules. We would end death by illness and disease, and our rational minds combined would finally reject physical violence and wars. Our single mind would ensure longevity and finally come to the conclusion that procreation is a dirty and animalistic practice that wastes too many resources, better to maintain existing bodies as a means of maintaining the species, better still to dispense with bodies all together.

 

Imagine what a world we would live in if we set the human mind free, truly free to explore the universe in reasoned and rational imaginings, guided by scientific principles and fed by knowledge devoured from the void until the whole universe in our mind’s eye becomes as flood lit and welcoming as any religious heaven. Our minds would impact the physical in every way, as they develop our own physical capacities. The mind can grow new eyes that see in various spectra of electromagnetism, seeing in radio waves, seeing in the infrared, in x-rays, and in ultraviolet, imagine what an overactive hive of constant motion and color the night sky would be if we could do that!!!

 

Yes, imagine indeed. It was said once, if humans can think it they can make it. What do you think, can we make it?

Orosdi-Back: A lost Beyrouth department store from an elegant age

My mother told me it was located on ‘ Banks Street ’ in Down Town Beirut , the road that leads up to Riad el Solh Square . On most maps the street is also named after Riad el Solh. The store was located opposite Bank Intra, or so I was told. Presumably the location of the store was indicative of the high end goodies on sale inside. The closest comparison to Orosdi Back is the old Allied’s department store in Dubai , for those who remember Dubai in the 1980s. But Orosdi Back was a store from a different age, an age of elegance as opposed to the vulgar modern excesses of the nouveau-riche, something Beirut ’s Down Town is synonymous with! A wonderful blog dubbed ‘language hat’ published some information about the founders of this chain of department stores. Lebanon searching for deliverance from the wolves of war, chaos and collapse

There is little to do in Lebanon, little paid work to be done, and what work there is, is pointless and poorly paid. Here we live in the hope that we shall eventually be delivered from the monsters, the wolves of our Lebanese government, Cabinet and Parliament and all the power-brokers that manipulate our lives.
